Meet Sara.
A transportation planner, Sara Barz earned a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley in 2015. She recently served on the San Francisco County Transportation Authority Community Advisory Committee. In 2024, Mass Transit magazine recognized Sara as a 40 under 40 transit professional.
Sara co-founded Seamless Bay Area and Friends of Slow Hearst; she is a founding board member and current President of the Westside Family Democratic Club. A Sunnyside neighborhood champion, Sara won a Good Neighbor award in 2025, and she serves on the board of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association.
In the fall of 2024, Sara was nominated to the SFMTA Board of Directors by outgoing Mayor London Breed. Sara got her start in San Francisco politics by volunteering with the popular “Yes on J” campaign in 2022 to protect JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park.
Sara and her husband Ian live with their 4-year-old son Calvin and their two ginger tabby cats in the Sunnyside neighborhood of San Francisco.
